Our Philosophy

In 2015, the World Economic Forum (WEF) published a report stating that social and emotional skills (Competencies and Character Qualities) are increasingly critical for employees to meaningfully and empathetically contribute to workplaces of the 21st century.

Our students are chosen to participate as RepresentEd Fellows based on their innate Character Qualities, and the curriculum and learning experiences are designed to build the Competencies skills throughout the process.

Screening and Selection

We recruit socially and culturally aware students who are seeking to make an impact through their work. Candidates have displayed an aptitude for persistence through tenacity, leadership through community engagement, curiosity through exploration, and initiative through action. Each RepresentEd Fellow is selected from various Social Science and Humanities majors, leveraging the critical thinking and empathy skills that they are taught in their existing coursework.


The RepresentEd community provides support to students through a network of professionals who are dedicated to their personal and professional growth.

Fellows are provided with 3 tiers of carefully-assembled mentors.

  • Peer Mentor: Recent graduate leading weekly summer clinics
  • Seasoned Professional: available in one off scenarios by email, phone, or face to face.
  • Assigned Professional: 12-18 month commitment based on assignment.


Fellows learn to incorporate the principles of Human-Centered Design to increase empathy as a part of a holistic approach to their personal and professional development.

The curriculum is based on the continuous feedback from both our students and strategic partners, and is designed to teach the WEF’s Competencies skills throughout the process. It applies directly to the needs of our clients, is highly interactive and delivered in a workshop format.

We match students with internship opportunities where they can best apply their learnings and talents to set them for success - building their confidence, leadership potential and networks post college. By exposing students from marginalized communities to organizations that can launch their careers, we aim to level the playing field and increase pathways towards upward mobility.
